Sedation Dentistry:
While we provide sedation dentistry most often for patients with dental anxiety, its benefits go beyond helping fearful patients feel calm. Sedation dentistry can also help those with a sensitive gag reflect, hypersensitive teeth, or a difficulty sitting still for long periods of time. In addition, the deep level of relaxation and increased patient compliance helps us complete multiple procedures in a single appointment. For patients in any of these situations, we offer a comprehensive selection of sedation dentistry options and are certified to administer IV sedation.
Our Practice’s Sedation Dentistry Options:
LOCAL ANESTHETIC
Local anesthetic is a numbing agent used to block sensations of pain at the treatment site. It can be used alone or in conjunction with other forms of sedation and commonly takes a few hours to wear off.
ORAL SEDATION
Oral sedation is taken in pill form a few hours prior to the appointment. It aids in relaxation and pain management for patients with moderate dental anxiety.
NITROUS OXIDE
Nitrous oxide, or “laughing gas,” is administered through a mask worn over the nose, putting patients in a euphoric state. This sedation has no side effects.
GENERAL ANESTHETIC
A general anesthetic is available for the most severe dental phobias or extensive surgical procedures. Patients are completely unconscious during treatment.
